Fall Furnace Tune-ups

Forest path in fallWhen we think of Fall, a lot of things come to mind. These are things like football, pumpkin patches, leaves changing, and hot chocolate. The fall season is upon us and we could not be more excited! The one thing people might forget to have on their mind, is giving their furnace a tune-up before the cold weather approaches. This is extremely crucial if you want to get ahead of the game in the HVAC world. Often times, people forget to do this and it leads to your furnace having issues in freezing weather! Now, who would want that? We want everyone to feel cozy in their homes throughout all of the seasons.

The majority of people do not do a tune-up prior to the season, so when the cold weather hits, everyone is calling in a frenzy to get the parts they need. This can cause a delay in getting the part, which, in-return, leaves you in the cold longer than you would like. Finding your furnace issues early could save you a ton of trouble. Doing a tune-up could prevent some issues altogether, so you would not have to worry about your furnace all season!

So, let’s go through how we actually tackle the tune-ups! The first thing you should do is check that thermostat of yours. Make sure all of the interior is cleaned, and initiate appropriate seasonal demand from the thermostat

Basically, if it is cold outside then turn on your heat, and if it’s hot outside then turn on your air conditioner. If your thermostat has a battery, now would be a great time to change it! The next thing we would suggest is checking your home’s air filter. Make sure to always write down the date you changed it so you know the next time it needs to be replaced again. Here is a cool tip to check if you need to change your filter! Shine a light behind your filter. If you

cannot see the light through the filter, it is time for a new one! One major thing we love to check are your flame sensors. It is important that those are cleaned because it if gets dirty, it might not sense the flame even if it is there. That could cause your furnace to turn off and obviously we want to avoid that from happening. It is crucial that you do not touch the flame end with your fingers, because of the oil on your hands. Make sure all of your connections are clean and properly functioning as well. And, one last important thing! Don’t forget to change out your capacitor. We suggest changing these every one to two years for them to have the correct microfarad readings.

For more information on the what your capacitor’s ratings mean, check out this blog ! Don’t forget, we also offer technical support. So, if you have any questions about your capacitor, flame sensor, or any other furnace or AC parts, we can answer them!

Thoroughly going through all these steps are immensely important. This time of year can be magical, but having furnace issues could take away the fun from your experience. We want you to enjoy the Fall and holiday seasons comfortably and happily. If you do end up running into issues or needing a part, we would love to help you out!
